"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.

  Sam Harris, a famous atheist, tried to take jabs at God by ridiculing the second commandment once, making remarks about how it is silly that God would take this so seriously as to put it second in priority. He questioned how this could be ethically or spiritually one of the most important commands. To prove his point, he gave an example where Muslims rioted and murdered people for a comical drawing of their precious prophet Muhammad. 

  This is quite ironic seeing as how Sam Harris proved why the second commandment is really important; he showed a very good example of idolatry and its consequences. The Islamic god and the Christian God are not the same entity. The Islamic god is an idol fashioned by human hands (human ideas) in the form of something in the world (a person named Muhammad).

  Yeah sure, people outside of Christianity do that. They misrepresent God and make a strawman to argue against faith in God. How about you though? Are you sure you are not breaking the second commandment? Are you following a false Jesus made by your own ideas in the shape of your own desires? Are you sure you are not an idolater? 

  21 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ – Matthew 7:21~2323 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 22 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

  Be careful since this could be about you. If you tend to change or exclude what Jesus said about certain topics, you are an idolater. If you are doing insane mental gymnastics to try to see the meaning that you want behind what Jesus said, you are an idolater. If you are misrepresenting what is said in the Bible to fit your own desires, you are an idolater. 

  It is amusing to see idolater "Christians" use examples from the Bible by putting things out of context to make a fake Christianity. One of the most misused parts of the Bible is when Jesus stopped a stoning of a prostitute. People love to use that and say “don’t judge others,” or “Jesus didn’t judge.” We must chuckle at the fact that they forgot to mention what Jesus said to the woman before He sent her off: “and from now on sin no more.” That is a command. Jesus wasn’t saying “oh, I see times are tough and you have bills to pay, so you can keep your life of prostitution.” No. Jesus was very clear about turning away from sin. 

  Remember that sin has its consequence. The consequence of sin is death. If you believe in Jesus, don’t forget that Jesus paid for the consequences of your sin. The least you can do is take His word as it is. Do not misrepresent him or change what He said.
